Friday's Storm Could Be An Overachiever

Wintry weather will return to western New York begining early Friday morning. A large storm system resposible for Thursday's rain will lead a big push of arctic air that will swing through the region Thursday night into Friday. This arctric air mass over the open waters of the lakes will produce Lake Effect Snow mainly south of Buffalo Friday and Saturday. The Lake Snows will be enhanced by an upper level low that will be swinging through from western PA through western NY. There is a good likelyhood that this upper low feature will produce a period of heavier snow for all of western New York on Friday from 4:00AM through about 1:00PM. A general 4 to 8 inches of snow can be expected with higher amounts from Lake Effect Snow that will develop down wind of Lake Erie mainly south of Buffalo and down wind of Lake Ontario into Rochester. Travelalong the NYS Thruway will be a mess with heavy snow and gusty winds.
